Unoccupied PropertY Insurance

Unoccupied Property Insurance

Unoccupied property insurance covers your home or property against damage and theft if it is left empty for a long time.

Your standard home insurance policy will only cover an empty house for a maximum of 30 days but this timeframe can be longer or shorter depending on the type of policy you have in place.

Unlike standard home policies, specialist unoccupied home insurance will cover a vacant property for between 3, 6, 9 or even 12 months, with the option to extend if required.

So it is vitally important for you to get insurance for an empty house to make sure you are covered should anything happen whilst you are not there for an extended period of time.

Will it cost me more?

Unoccupied property insurance tends to be more expensive than standard home insurance because vacant properties are considered a much higher risk by insurers particularly as a vacant home is so very attractive to burglars and would be vandals.

So if you are going on an extended business trip, unable to live at the property due to extensive renovation work, waiting for a new tenant to move in or it is a second property or holiday home that you do not normally live in, do not waste time worrying about the ins and outs of unoccupied home insurance.
